Large Italian Empire Crystal Basket Chandelier – 18 Lights
Offered is this exceptionally large and magnificent Italian crystal basket chandelier in the Empire style, dating from circa 1950–1970 and lavishly decorated with cut crystal.
The impressive chandelier features the characteristic classical basket shape and an extraordinary abundance of crystal chains, prisms and pendeloques. Long strands of faceted crystals descend from the richly decorated upper crown to the large central ring and continue into the beautifully rounded crystal basket below.
The broad central ring is particularly elaborate, surrounded by cut crystal prisms and richly adorned with long drops, faceted crystals and large teardrop pendants.
Ten gracefully curved brass arms are fitted with flower-shaped crystal bobeches and further embellished with delicate crystal chains and pendeloques.
A particularly impressive feature is the chandelier's elaborate 18-light illumination. In addition to the 10 visible candle lights, another 8 lights are positioned inside the crystal basket. These illuminate the extensive crystal decoration from within, creating a magnificent play of light, sparkle and reflections when the chandelier is illuminated.
An exceptionally impressive Italian crystal basket chandelier of substantial size and presence – ideal for a large living or dining room, entrance hall, staircase or other representative interior.
