Spain, circa 1960
This rare and striking Spanish chandelier from around 1960 is a powerful statement piece with a distinctive maritime theme. Combining solid craftsmanship with sculptural figural elements, it goes far beyond being a simple lighting fixture and reads almost as a ceiling-mounted artwork.
The chandelier is crafted from solid brass with a warm gilt bronze patina and has an impressive weight of approximately 15 kg, underlining its substantial quality. From the large central entablement extend four richly decorated arms, each branching into three light points, creating a well-balanced and expressive overall form.
The elaborately designed central column is adorned with lush maritime figures, including stylized seahorses and walrus motifs. These elements are finely modeled and contribute significantly to the chandelier’s sculptural presence. Such narrative and symbolic motifs are characteristic of Spanish workshops from the 1950s and 1960s.
Each of the 12 large drip pans is decorated with six diamond-cut crystal prisms. The arms are additionally embellished with large crystal drops. In total, the chandelier features 88 crystal drops that gently refract the light, creating subtle rainbow reflections without appearing excessive.
The crystal decoration is complete and undamaged. The chandelier and its wiring (12 × E14 sockets, max. 40 W) are in good and well-maintained condition.
With its medium-scale dimensions, this chandelier is ideally suited as a statement lighting piece for living and dining rooms, salons, libraries, or refined coastal and holiday residences.
