Large Figural Antique Bronze Chandelier – France circa 1880–1900
This magnificent antique chandelier dates from the late 19th century and represents a superb example of French luxury bronze work in the Louis XV / Louis XVI style. The chandelier is crafted entirely from solid, fire-gilded bronze and displays exceptional sculptural quality and refined craftsmanship.
The central feature is a richly modeled vase-shaped body, flanked by four finely cast putti figures gracefully leaning against the central form. The figures exhibit well-balanced proportions, delicately modeled facial features, and finely detailed hair, indicating high artistic and technical quality.
Extending from the lower section are six elegantly curved arms, designed in the form of stylized acanthus leaves, each terminating in a classical candle socket with drip pan, preserving the authentic appearance of historical candle lighting. The lower finial is completed with an ornamental rosette and pineapple-shaped terminal, a traditional symbol of prosperity and hospitality.
The chandelier retains a warm original gilt patina, beautifully emphasizing the depth of the relief work and sculptural details. Minor signs of age are consistent with its authenticity and enhance its antique character.
The chandelier is suspended from a heavy decorative chain and finished with a matching gilt bronze ceiling canopy.
The electrical wiring has been professionally renewed, making the chandelier fully functional and compliant with modern safety standards. The sockets are suitable for modern candle-style bulbs while preserving the historic appearance.
