Antique French Mazarin chandelier in bronze with sculptural caryatids
Late Historicism / Neo-Baroque, circa 1880–1910
Magnificent original French Mazarin chandelier dating from the late 19th century, crafted from solid cast bronze/brass of exceptional quality and detail.
The central body is richly articulated and adorned with several finely sculpted female busts (caryatids), inspired by classical antiquity. These figural elements are a hallmark of high-end French chandeliers of the period and clearly distinguish this piece from simpler, more common examples.
The gracefully curved arms are executed in the traditional Mazarin style, decorated with lavish acanthus leaves and floral motifs. Each arm features a detailed drip pan and candle socket, contributing to the chandelier’s balanced and highly elegant appearance.
The lower section is finished with a finely ornamented baluster and decorative finial. The surface retains a warm, original patina, enhancing the depth and richness of the chiselled details.
