Antique brass ceiling pendant / semi-flush light with satin glass
Art Nouveau to early Art Deco, circa 1915–1930
This refined antique ceiling light dates from the transition period between late Art Nouveau and early Art Deco and impresses with its balanced proportions and high-quality materials.
The shade is made of satin-finished crystal glass, shaped like an inverted chalice or flower. It is decorated with a repeating stylized leaf and palm motif, symmetrically arranged and characteristic of the era’s strong connection to natural forms. The gently ribbed lower edge enhances the depth of the design and creates a soft, evenly diffused light. Minor irregularities and a subtle cloudiness in the glass are typical of the period and emphasize its authentic antique character.
The mounting and decorative elements are crafted from brass or bronze, retaining a warm original patina. The wide decorative gallery with beaded and notched detailing is a classic feature of the 1920s. The geometric suspension elements above the shade clearly reflect early Art Deco influences, forming an elegant contrast to the organic glass decoration.
Originally designed for rooms with lower ceiling heights, this type of light was commonly used in hallways, bedrooms, dining rooms, or formal reception areas. When illuminated, it provides a soft, warm, and glare-free ambiance.
