Magnificent Antique Bronze Chandelier with Etched Opaline Glass Shades – France / Germany circa 1890–1910
This impressive and finely crafted chandelier dates from the late Historicist period, circa 1890–1910, and showcases exceptional craftsmanship, elegant proportions, and richly detailed bronze work. The chandelier is made entirely of solid bronze, featuring a deep, dark patina contrasted by beautifully fire-gilded decorative elements.
The baluster-shaped central body is adorned with finely chased floral garlands, rosettes, and ribbon motifs, strongly inspired by the Louis XVI style, which was highly fashionable during this era. The sculptural quality of the bronze arms is remarkable, with acanthus leaves, scrolls, and carefully modeled transitions, reflecting superior hand-finished work.
The chandelier features six gracefully curved arms, each fitted with original etched and opalized glass flower shades. The glass shades display delicate floral etching and softly ruffled edges, creating a warm and atmospheric light. In addition, the chandelier is equipped with a central upper light, providing excellent overall illumination.
A distinctive feature is the robust suspension system with decorative ring connections, which not only adds stability but also enhances the chandelier’s architectural elegance.
The electrical wiring has been professionally renewed, making the chandelier fully functional and compliant with modern safety standards, while preserving its authentic antique character. The sockets are suitable for modern bulbs.
